Save the vegetables!

listen to the carrots screaming
yes i know you think i'm dreaming
or hallucinating

every living thing must die
the carrot dreads its soul must fly
but why by peeling or by grating

honor every helpless green
shun the salad and the bean
life is love but eating's hating

summer sometimes

briefly at the summers end
we follow sunshine on the water
follow memories and pretend
the days are really not much shorter

sometimes at the summers end
we remember summers past
and the life that we enjoyed
knowing that it cannot last much longer

tracing memories through the years
years of triumph years of fears
till success is who we've met
not what we've got

life is only where we've been
not what we dreamed

human

inside the forest
the homeland forever
part of the wildlife
hunter and prey

lifetimes of drought
forest to grassland
climbers to runners
that was our chance

not by the brain
not by the hand
but by the foot
how we advanced

on the edge

uncertainty is friends with me
we sit and contemplate
to what degree
the world is out of date

now we are faced with world war three
with bigotry and crime
and we have come to see
the world is out of time

islam does not plan to subjugate
but simply to eliminate

metro gnome

clicking down a city street
urban vermin keeps the beat
no one sees his mis-matched feet
but all the hippies think his manic grin is sweet

never sure
if i met those hippies once before
never mind
as long as all their friends are mine
never miss
the concert in the park where we can share
a space beneath the trees and the grass for a chair

www.mykuworld.com

where are the snows of yesteryear
that fell so soft and white
and children played and parents sang
and all the world was bright

* ****** **** ****** *

melting snow and drooping eyes
children love the holidays
then the party's over
still the stars bejewel the skies

* ****** **** ****** *

what's done is done when the sun goes down
but the sun will also rise
i live for that
to see the sun glow in your eyes

* ****** **** ****** *

disrepair is where i'm at
sliding in to end the race
beaten battered tired sore
unused would be the real disgrace

Another young man from Nantucket ...

The was a young man from Nantucket
Who liked to shoot fish in a bucket.
He said with a grin,
As he ripped off its skin,
If this fish was a duck, I would pluck it.

A niece of the late Queen of Sheba

A niece of the late Queen of Sheba
Was promiscuous with an amoeba.
The small blob of jelly
Lay still on her belly
And amorously whispered "ich liebe".

Character is destiny

Circumstance is history
but character is destiny.
Think about it carefully,
learn the lesson thoroughly:
all of life is poetry.

By the time you see your path,
it may be too dark to follow.
Find another way.

ancient apemen actively advancing

pithy people
anthropologists say
ruled the world once
long ago and far away

in africa pithecanthropus
gave rise to folks like us

changed their name to homo
left their ancient home
grew a larger dome
learned to write a poem

sapient siblings continue to write
showing our new intellectual might

Political Science

Ride the hectic dialectic
to the other side of sane.

Watch the world's worst contradictions
mock the world's worst kind of pain.

Then destroy corrupt creation
just to start it up again!

stormy weather

just a little noise and light
the rain announcing that it's here
nothing much to fear
when it's over we can see that we're all right

* ****** **** ****** *

the sunshine's kind of gray today
the moon begins to drizzle
the grass is clouding up, they say
and sunset's due to fizzle

* ****** **** ****** *

color me a sunset, paint it blue and gray
the perfect denouement to a bruiser of a day
smile me an evening, leave the day behind,
sitting here beside you, I don't mind

going about your business

Lurking in the fetid basement

Lurking in the fetid basement,
rats with teeth like chisels wait,
as the humans stomp on by them,
putting out the poisoned bait.

Soon they’ll eat up all the poison,
never taking harm at all;
they’ll be sorry when we vanish,
no more leaving such a haul.

a squeal of disdain

a squeal of disdain
as he dies in pain
the mouse won't bother you again

his tiny soul
unsullied, whole
rodent heaven as his goal

he only ate a little bit
at RAT's right paw now he will sit

Mice fill an ancient niche

Mice fill an ancient niche,
living between bigger beasts,
hoping for scraps to snitch,
turning refuse into feasts.

Hiding in holes behind walls,
silently roaming at night,
whispering their careful calls,
no reason at all for fright.

Mice are happiest unseen;
they find most people are mean.

still their musty odor clings

urban vermin gets around
there's nowhere that he can't be found
if you don't think so -- turn around!

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

scruffy creepy crawly things
own your home -- till the alarm clock rings
still their musty odor clings

rodent footprints

rodent footprints on the shore
hunting for a scrap to eat
mice and rats most ancient lore
any garbage is a treat

rats and mice back on the street
where they never lack for snacks
sloppy households never neat
as the crumbs fall through the cracks

follow rodents by their tracks
kill them off with poison or
beat them up with forty whacks
there will still be plenty more

slowly through the bushes

slowly through the bushes
catsoft feet patrol the yard
rats and mice in mortal peril
from the humans' feline guard

never cross in open daylight
watch the shadow on the grass
hawks are also deadly danger
careful vermin quickly pass

once inside, the choicest treasure
placed inside a metal trap
lets the hungry rodent enter
shuts the heavy metal flap

still they flourish
no surprise
so many born
for each that dies

On his own

Listen to the Arabs whining,
do ya really think they're pining
for the days of caliph and tradition,
devoid of progress, prosperity, and freedom?

Do they need to live with Jews
to see that each of them can choose
his own life with his own surprises?

Time to throw their leaders out
as the Arab, on his own, uprises.

another year

they always sound best
when i speak to the point
instead of reprinting old words

but still i remember
when old words were young
like the winds of a storm that i heard

and the winds of that storm
left me tired and worn
but smiling that
it's over

Aztec prayer

we only come to dream
we only come to pray
we only hope for the best of times
that when they come, they stay

and while we sit around and hope
i hope we all remember
to get out and run in the sun or the rain
and make our own times better!
